Dermaplaning: A Guide to Smoother, Radiant Skin

How Does It Work?

Dermaplaning is a non-invasive exfoliation treatment that uses a scalpel to gently remove dead skin cells and fine hair, offering multiple benefits:

  • Smoother Skin: Leaves the skin soft, refined, and silky.
  • Brighter Complexion: Reveals fresh, glowing skin with an even tone.
  • Enhanced Product Absorption: Improves the effectiveness of skincare products by allowing them to penetrate deeper.
  • Reduction in Fine Lines & Scars: Gradually diminishes the appearance of fine lines and acne scars.
  • Prevents Clogged Pores: Reduces debris buildup, helping to prevent breakouts.
  • No Downtime: Provides immediate results with no recovery time needed.
  • Safe for Most Skin Types: Gentle and suitable for sensitive skin.

Pre-Care Instructions

To ensure optimal results and safety, follow these steps before your dermaplaning session:

  1. Discontinue Exfoliants: Stop using retinoids, AHAs, BHAs, or scrubs 5-7 days prior.
  2. Avoid Sun Exposure: Limit direct sunlight and tanning (including self-tanners) for 1 week before treatment.
  3. No Hair Removal: Refrain from waxing, threading, or using depilatory creams for 1-2 weeks before.
  4. Arrive with Clean Skin: Come with a clean, makeup-free face on the day of your appointment.
  5. Inform Your Provider: Share any skin sensitivities, allergies, or recent procedures.
  6. Wait After Other Treatments: Ensure 2 weeks have passed since chemical peels, microneedling, or laser treatments.

Post-Care Instructions

After your dermaplaning treatment, proper care is essential to maintain results and avoid complications:

  1. Protect Your Skin: Use a broad-spectrum SPF 30+ daily and avoid direct sunlight for 1 week.
  2. Gentle Skincare: Cleanse with a mild cleanser and avoid active ingredients like retinoids or acids for 5-7 days.
  3. No Makeup: Avoid wearing makeup for 24 hours to reduce irritation.
  4. Hydrate: Apply a soothing, hydrating moisturizer to support your skin barrier.
  5. Avoid Heat & Sweating: Skip hot showers, saunas, or strenuous exercise for 24-48 hours.
  6. Do Not Pick: Mild flaking is normal; let the skin exfoliate naturally.
