What is a chemical peel?

A chemical peel is a treatment used to improve skin texture and tone. An acid is applied to the skin to lower its pH, which loosens the connections between dead skin cells, exfoliating and stimulating new cell growth. Superficial layers of dead skin peel off, revealing a smoother and more radiant complexion.

We use peels from Vivier and SkinCeuticals.

From Vivier, we offer the Glow peel and the Jessner peel (14% salicylic acid, 14% lactic acid, 14% resorcinol); the Jessner is a stronger peel focused on acne, pigmentation, texture and photoaging. From SkinCeuticals, the Smart TCA Peel (15% TCA, 3% glycolic acid) is our strongest peel, for moderate photoaging, wrinkles, pigmentation and texture, with 3 to 7 days of downtime, and the Pigment Balancing Peel is a mild peel for hyperpigmentation, uneven skin tone and sun damage. The MicroPeel is a mild peel for dullness, uneven texture, fine lines and maintenance.

What to expect

  1. Treatment

Your face is cleansed and dried. You may feel a warm, tingling sensation that peaks and then dissipates within a couple of minutes of the peel being applied. The peel is precisely timed and generally well tolerated.

  2. Finish

Once the peel is neutralized, a soothing medicated moisturizer is applied to calm and rebalance the skin, then a non-chemical SPF to protect it from UV damage.

  3. Recovery

Initially the skin feels slightly tender and more sensitive as the epidermis renews itself. Peeling does not always occur; if it does, it usually lasts 3 to 5 days, after which fresh new skin emerges.
