What is dermaplaning?
Dermaplaning is an exfoliation treatment that also removes vellus (peach fuzz) hair from the face. Using a sterile blade, the technician exfoliates the epidermis (specifically the stratum corneum) through a controlled scraping. This removes dead skin cells and vellus facial hair, stimulating skin rejuvenation and eliminating hair that traps excess dirt and oil.
Exfoliation from dermaplaning promotes increased epidermal cell turnover, which improves skin texture and tone and allows greater penetration of anti-aging products. Regular treatments can reduce the appearance of fine lines, scars, pores and hyperpigmentation. The treatment immediately gives the skin a glow and improves product penetration and hydration.
A trained technician can see areas of your face that are hard to see yourself, helping make sure all the vellus hair is removed. Each treatment removes about 2 to 3 weeks’ worth of dead skin build-up.

What to expect
Preparation
Your skin is gently cleansed and prepped, your hair is tied back, and depending on how dry your skin is an oil may be applied so the blade glides smoothly.
Treatment
A controlled scraping with a sterile blade removes dead skin cells and vellus hair. The treatment takes approximately 30 to 45 minutes.
Finish
A gentle anti-aging mask is applied to the treated area, with a gentle scalp massage while it is on.
Repeat
Every 4 weeks, so the skin completes its full cycle of approximately 30 days.
FAQ
Does dermaplaning make the hair grow back thicker or darker?
No. There are two types of hair on our bodies: vellus (thin, translucent blond hair) and terminal (thicker hair on the eyebrows, underarms, pubic region and legs). Vellus hair grows back the same way after being cut or removed. Terminal hair is coarse to begin with and grows back the same way, influenced by genetics, hormones and medications.
Is dermaplaning painful, or does it cause bleeding?
If done properly, with good technique, there is no pain or bleeding. The occasional nick in the skin can occur; it is rare and usually very minor.
How often can dermaplaning be performed?
Every 4 weeks. We want the skin to complete its full cycle, which takes approximately 30 days.
Who is it for?
All skin types, except moderate to severe acne (grade 3 to 4) and inflamed, dry, flaky skin. It may be preferred by clients who are not good candidates for chemical exfoliation or microdermabrasion, and suits darker skin tones (Fitzpatrick types 4 to 6) and mild rosacea.
Can I have it around the time of Botox or filler?
Ideally, have dermaplaning 2 weeks before or 2 weeks after Botox, Dysport or dermal filler.
