What is Opus plasma?

Opus by Alma is a plasma device offering a non-invasive approach to revitalizing, resurfacing and tightening the skin. Plasma, often called the “fourth state of matter”, is created using radiofrequency energy to ionize nitrogen gas particles in the air between the device’s applicator tip and the skin. Applied to the skin, the plasma energy delicately heats its layers, both external and internal, stimulating the production of collagen and elastin, the two key proteins for a firm, youthful appearance.

The plasma creates micro-thermal zones, tiny, controlled areas of heat, without directly touching the skin, and this controlled damage stimulates the body’s natural healing processes. The surrounding tissue is not affected. Different applicator tips (Focus, Glide, and the Colibri tip for delicate areas like around the eyes) let the practitioner customize the treatment to your skin type, concerns and desired outcome.

What to expect

  1. Consultation

A thorough consultation with your practitioner or aesthetician about your concerns, medical history and desired outcome. Your skin type and condition are assessed to determine whether Opus is the right treatment. This consultation is required before your first treatment, for your safety. A test patch may be done to check how your skin reacts.

  2. Preparation

The face is cleansed to remove makeup, oils and impurities, and a topical anaesthetic may be applied to minimize discomfort.

  3. Procedure

The Opus device is moved across the skin, delivering controlled plasma energy; you might feel a warm or prickly sensation. Two or three different tips (Colibri, Focus and Glide) are used depending on your needs. The treatment takes anywhere from 20 minutes to an hour, depending on the areas treated.

  4. Recovery

The skin may appear red and slightly swollen, like a mild sunburn, with tiny microdots or crusts as part of the healing response, and a feeling of tightness or warmth. A cold moist towel is placed over the area right after. Plan for 3 to 5 days of recovery. Redness and swelling vary with treatment intensity and individual healing.

  5. Results

Improved texture and radiance within days to a week. As new collagen forms over the following weeks and months, firmness and elasticity increase and fine lines, scars and pores reduce. Three treatments 4 to 6 weeks apart are recommended for optimal results, then 1 to 2 a year for maintenance.

FAQ

Is it safe for my skin tone?

Yes. Opus is safe for all skin tones, with mild to moderate discomfort.

How many treatments will I need?

Many patients see results after a single treatment. Three treatments 4 to 6 weeks apart are recommended for optimal results, and 1 to 2 a year for maintenance.

When will I see results?

Improved texture and radiance within days to a week. Collagen builds over the following weeks and months, with more pronounced tightening and a reduction in fine lines, scars and pore size; patients often report a “glass” smooth appearance in the first few months.

Is there downtime?

Yes. The skin is red and slightly swollen, like a mild sunburn, while it heals. Plan for 3 to 5 days of recovery. Redness and swelling vary with treatment intensity and individual healing.

Does it hurt?

A topical anaesthetic may be applied first. You might feel a warm or prickly sensation during the treatment, and tightness or warmth afterwards.
