Electrocautery aftercare
Keep the area clean
Gently clean the treated area with mild soap and water. Pat the area dry with a clean towel or allow it to air dry. Avoid scrubbing or rubbing the area to prevent irritation.
Apply an antibiotic ointment (if advised)
If your practitioner recommends it, apply a thin layer of antibiotic ointment to the treated area(s) each morning and each night after washing the area(s). Do this for 5 days. This can help prevent infection and promote healing.
Avoid picking or scratching
Do not pick at scabs or try to remove any crusting that forms on the treated area. Let the scabs or crusts fall off naturally to avoid scarring and infection. The crusts usually fall off by day 7.
Keep the area covered (if necessary)
Depending on the location of the treated area and your practitioner’s instructions, you may need to keep it covered with a sterile dressing or bandage. This can protect the area from potential contaminants.
Avoid direct sunlight
Minimize sun exposure to the treated area for at least a few days after the procedure. If you must go outside, protect the area with clothing, a bandage, or use a broad-spectrum sunscreen with SPF 30 or higher.
Avoid swimming or soaking the area
Refrain from swimming or soaking in water, such as baths, saunas, hot tubs, or pools, for a few days after the procedure to reduce the risk of infection.
Use mild, non-irritating products
Avoid using irritating skincare products (Retin-A, Retinol, Vitamin C, Glycolic acids etc), alcohol-based solutions, or exfoliants on the treated area(s) until healed completely.
Take pain relief if necessary
If you experience any discomfort after the procedure, consult your practitioner for suitable pain relief options.
Be patient
Allow the treated area(s) to heal at its own pace. Healing time can vary depending on the extent of the electrocautery treatment and your body’s natural healing process. Remember that individual healing times may vary, and it’s essential to follow your practitioner’s specific post-treatment care instructions for the best outcome.
Report any concerns
If you notice any signs of infection, such as increasing redness, swelling, warmth, pus, or persistent pain, contact your practitioner promptly.
